Application
The Isopad ICon-TSW3 temperature controllers are robust controllers compatible with Pt100 temperature sensors. The controllers can switch loads up to 16A and are built in a compact housing. A special feature of the TSW3 is the second switching point which can operate as a second heating stage or an alarm.
The controller comes in a polycarbonate housing with a transparent lid which is assembled by steel screws, the electronic components are covered by a polycarbonate panel in the housing. The temperature scale and system status (using different LED's) are shown on the front panel. The controller is connected to power supply, sensor and heating system via internal termination blocks and special entry glands. The temperature is set manually by a knob, which is covered by the lid for a maximum of protection during operation. To adjust the temperature setpoint the lid has to be removed. This can be done without de-energizing the unit.
Precise temperatures are achieved by the PI-characteristics of the controller. Temperature overshoots are possible during startup and therefore it is recommended to set temperatures below the preferred setpoint during initial operation. For applications requiring simple temperature control, the ICon-TSW3 series will be a perfect fit. For more accurate temperature control and additional control and monitoring options, digital controllers such as the ICon4848 series and the ICon-TD7000 series will be a better fit.
The controller has 3 different connection methods for operation. The two switching contacts can be connected so that the following options are available:
Control within temperature range
If the temperature controller is to be used for roof/ gutter heating or similar applications, two links across the terminal block are required.
Control with low-temperature indication
In this arrangement the "low temperature" contact provides "fault indication". If the temperature is below the set temperature, the relay contact will switch to indicate low temperature, defective controller or loss of supply voltage. This arrangement can therefore be used to indicate "fault conditions".
2-stage control
If the temperature controller is to be used for 2-stage control, two heating units with different temperature values can be controlled. The total current drawn by the two heating units together must not exceed 16 A.
